    Hi,

How do I enable/install NVidia proprietary drivers in geeXboX 3.0?

    Thanks,

    opkg update

    opkg install xf86-video-nvidia

    from terminal or remote shell

or go to programm/geexbox updater, perform an upgrade and  select packages xf86-video-nvidia

    in both cases, reboot

    Thanks!

I have another question: do I need proprietary drivers to have VDPAU supported witg my 8400GS card (which does support VDPAU)?

After my first install, reading a 1080p video was using 70% on both CPU (AMD Athlon 64), and only 30% for 720p. The strange thing is that using the live geeXboX CD, same videos were only using 10% of CPU!!!

I re-installed geeXboX, and this time, only 18% CPU are used, whatever the resolution of the video. This is muce better, but still higher than with live geeXboX.

    Any idea why?

    it’s a bug

Do you mean that the CPU is more than 18%? I can see that the video is really smooth.

    What is the bug?

I checked again. In the Xorg log file, the nouveau driver seems to say that it supports VDPAU.

And the full HD videos works fine, with little use of CPU (18%). This is much better than with my quad core Q6600, which does not have a card supporting VDPAU.

What do you think about? Is there sime logs somewhere really saying if the player uses VDPAU or not?

i mean it’s a bug if you can see only 18%

    check log from xbmc :

    in /root/.xbmc/temp/xbmc.log

you can use htop too (install it first and connect from ssh)

Mmm, this time, I get 60% again! And I can see in the log that the VDPAU failed.

Ok, nvidia drivers solved the problem; CPU are now arround 6 and15%.
