just to know and to add your configuration :
did you try solution1 or solution2 for sound ?

for your problem, open a new post containing xbmc.log (located in /root/.xbmc/temp )

Solution 2 works well.
“Audio output device” and “Passthrough Audio output device”, if both set them to hw:0,7

Solution 1 only works for every sound which is not DTS or DD passthrough.
Simply because the “Audio output device” setting can be set to “Standards” which works.
“Audio output device Passthrough” can not be set to “Standards” only to hdmi, iec958 and user defined. It think these predifined settings don’t fit to your pcm.defaults.

ups, i read your last comment to late….
I just delete /root/.xbmc as you told me in the other post…

What special steeting are you interesed in?

BTW, it would be very helpfull for me, if you can tell me how to add an addtional entry in /etc/asound.conf to also steer the sound out config for the “passthrough audio ouput” with this solution?

While your are testing, test this one (or later) : http://download.openbricks.org/geexbox-devel-20111219-r13629-i386.iso
Did you try :
SOUNDCARD_PT_MODE=”ac3dts” or other value ?

Exact the same as before.
I had to add the settings to the asound.conf or in Audio setting of XBMC with hw:0,7.

I was hope that would not be necessary cause of the new setings in XBMC like “hdmi (ALSA)”, but doesn’t work.

I also tried: SOUNDCARD_PT_MODE=”ac3dts”, but i think this setting is not need if i add the hw:0,7 in XBMC.

BTW, video stop issue still remains.

Forgot to tell:
I used “geexbox-devel-20111219-r13631-i386.iso”
