Hello, happy new year, and thank you for the most useful linux htpc distro ever! I got it running on an old and noisy AMD 64 machine with integrated nVidia video over the holidays and I was impressed. Smooth and easy. Great job! So I tried it on a slightly newer and quieter combination of Intel D945GCLF (Atom) motherboard and ATI Radeon HD 4350 (PCI) with no luck so far. I think that the particularity causing difficulties with this setup is that the Intel integrated graphic card can’t be completely disabled, so the system has two video cards. I am trying to run on a single 1920×1080 display attached to the HDMI port of the HD 4350, using geexbox-devel-20120105-r13787-i386.iso At boot, I first see an “undefined video mode 315 error”. I press ENTER to see different video modes and enter “scan” to see more, but no 1920×1080. I get past the undefined video mode 315 error by pressing the TAB key and replacing vga=789 with vga=0×323 After doing so, I see the GeeXboX splash screen for a few seconds and then the screen goes blank. I tried to attach a second monitor to Intel’s on-board video, but it is blank too. When I remove the HD 4350 the system boots without problems but hangs with a blank screen after the GeeXboX splash screen. I pulled the mercurial repository from http://hg.geexbox.org/geexbox and started going through “make config” on my Kubuntu workstation but the configuration process is long and tedious and I understand less than half of the options. Can anybody help/guide me building a version of GeeXboX that works on the D945GCLF? I use UNetbootin to write the ISO on an old Compact Flash memory that boots perfectly on both machines via a CF to PATA adapter. I am computer-savvy and eager to get GeeXboX work on my living-room HTPC. Thanks |

If you can access your htpc via telnet or connect via ftp , can you attach Xorg.0.log ? to build from scratch, first take sources from openbricks repositorie, do : this will load and build with the good options (maybe add xf86-video-fglrx to config if you want to test)

Thanks for the quick and helpful reply. I started building and it quit at: http://sources.openbricks.org/devel/dvb-usb-rtl2832u-2.2.2+fec6115935.tar.bz2 Can’t get dvb-usb-rtl2832u sources, falling back to repository looking in ./openbricks/packages/dvb-usb-rtl2832u/meta I found that the source package should be a git repo. I guess the sources.openbricks.org is a fall back. I did not have git installed on my workstation. Shouldn’t “git” be added around line 38 of ./scripts/checkdeps to the two strings deps and depspkg? and the fall back package? restarted make, the next stop was: sh: /usr/bin/autom4te: not found should “autotools” be added to the above dependencies too? the process goes on. The workstation has time, I don’t use it currently. I am deep into reading papers for a research assignment due in ten days. From time to time I lift my head and check on the PC. |

As the process goes on, it gets interrupted by the occasional broken download with bzip2 trying to unpack a 404 html. I am not experienced in shell programming and I don’t know if it is possible to catch the exception rather than have the make process fail. The fix for the occasional SourceForge hick-up is to manually download the tarball and place it in the destination folder, then restart make. Sometimes however it is not just a network hick-up, but a resources that moved, e.g. http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~whot/evtest/snapshot/evtest-1.25.tar.bz2 is now at http://cgit.freedesktop.org/evtest/snapshot/evtest-1.25.tar.bz2 I’d fix PKG_URL in ./packages/evtest/meta if I had Hg write access. Sorry if I come across a little bit dense - the intention is to help fix those little papercuts in the build process and make it smoother and more convenient for everybody. As a newbie with little free time, there is not much more that I can contribute at this stage. And the build process goes on… |

Build success! ######################################################################### The compact flash boots well and work on both the Asus M2NPV-VM and the Intel D945GCLF. On the Intel D945GCLF it works iwith the IGP (1366×768) and with the ATI Radeon HD 4350 (PCI) (1920×1080). However, DVD playback is not working. Instead I get a message telling me to check the logfile for details. I can telnet the machine, but it asks for username and password and I do not know where to set / find them. I assume the logs will be in /var/log/ somewhere… Also no luck with audio over the HDMI, but that would have been the cherry on the cake. |

for evtest, you can submit a patch to [email protected] (don’t forget to subscribe first see :http://www.openbricks.org/mailing-lists/ ) |
