Hello

Ive been using Geeexbox for a day now from the live cd and it is very nice.

I am getting a problem when i use it through the usb, i followed the documentation on how to install it to a usb flash drive, i see the splash screen and then this occurs:

mount: mounting none on /newroot failed: Invalid arguement
Cannot mount aufs, dropping to shell

then it gives busybox version and stuff.
The only way i can boot into Geexbox is if i rename ‘casper -rw’ to ‘casper -rw rw’ , but then none of the settings gets saved.

Could someone please help here, also im on a 32bit pc.

Thanks

ok, you use unetbootin to create your usb stick
Did you use the documentation to create casper-rw ?

Ah thanks Tom, its working now.

What i did is first use unetbootin with 0mb for preserve space, then i used toporesize to create a new casper-rw.img.

The previous times i used unetbootin and i allocate about 50mb but it only creates a casper-rw file not a casper-rw.img file, the same happens when using toporesize when ‘find file’ is checked it only produces a casper-rw file.

Thanks again :)

Ok after creating my casper-rw.img file, geexbox now starts to boot.

I got another problem and that is that none of the settings that i make are saved, ive seen the other thread where you said that you must use persistent. Could you please tell me if there is something else i should do to the casper-rw.img file in order for my settings to be saved.

Thanks

the name of the persistent fie is “casper-rw” not “casper-rw.img”
create at least a persistent file with a size of 250 MB

ive tried what you said but gives same error as in my first post.

What i tried is, i used unetbootin with 300mb for persistent file, then tried and got error in first post.
Then i used toporesize and resized the same casper-rw file as above to about 350mb, tried and got the same error when booting up.

the file names were ‘casper-rw’

you use unetbootin from windows of from linux ?

from windows.

Also i made a casper-rw in linux and copied it over to the flash drive, but same result.

use this iso : http://download.geexbox.org/releases/2.0.1/geexbox-2.0.1-i386.iso
create your usb stick with unetbootin without persistent
create a persistent fiile under linux with “dd” (see doc)
copy it over your usb stick in a directory called “persist”
add this when booting (replace persistent by ): “persistent=/persist/casper-rw rw”

EDIT: Figured out how to edit the booting up sequence to “persistent=/persist/casper-rw rw”, but need help with the wifi.

Thanks Tom, that works perfectly.

Settings were saved after reboot. So is there a file i must edit to say “persistent=/persist/casper-rw rw” , so i dont have to type it out each time i boot.

Also i have been trying to get my wifi working, i get to the screen where it shows all my lan and wlan configurations(using vi /etc/network), i type in the 4 relevant info which was stated in the documentation, but how do i save and exit from that screen.

Thanks

in order :
ESC
:
w
q

then reboot

For persistent, now that it works, move file inside the root of your stick, reboot , let the boot continue without modification , does it work ?

Ill just play around with the wifi settings untill it works.

Thanks for all your help. :)

EDIT: No, still gives me that error when moved in and took the modifications out.
But works if i type ‘persistent=casper-rw rw’

edit syslinux.cfg inside your usb-stick
changes should like this :

label unetbootindefault
menu label Default
kernel /ubnkern
append initrd=/ubninit vga=789 persistent=casper-rw rw quiet splash loglevel=3

Thanks, ya did that earlier and worked, thanks for the great help Tom.

Could you help me with the wifi, just having some trouble with the wifi at the moment, i followed the documentation, but doesnt seem to have worked.

These are my configurations:
NETWORK=”WLAN”
SSID=”Nameblah”
SECURITY=”" what do i put here because mine is WPA/WPA2 PSK
PASSPHRASE=”Mypassword”

Must i have more configurations or is the security wrong there was no option for WPA/WPA2 PSK
