BTW,
may you should set VDR_CHARSET_OVERRIDE in runvdr as default because it is not specific for germany (as i just realized)
Taken from german vdr wiki:
” VDR_CHARSET_OVERRIDE = Workaround für Provider, die ihre EPG Daten nicht dem Standard ISO6937 entsprechend kodieren”
Means in english “Workaround for Provider, who don’t encode their EPG data as spcifed in ISO6937″
This also applies for french.For example the german pay tv provider “Sky Germany” does not stick to the rules of ISO6937 for EPG data.
With the setting VDR_CHARSET_OVERRIDE = ISO-8859-15, you get your EPG information from vdr in the write encoding and special chars work in general.January 1, 2012 at 13:08 #2485but /video/ is on casper-rw which is a n ext2 filesystem
and my result is from my usb stick (fat32 too)January 1, 2012 at 13:11 #2486so did you test this ?

January 1, 2012 at 13:48 #2491i have tested with de_DE, no problem
January 1, 2012 at 14:07 #2492did you test with LC_CTYPE ?
in /usr/lib/runvdr :export LC_CTYPE=de_DE (in place of all other export … )
from vdr.c :
char *CodeSet = NULL;
if (setlocale(LC_CTYPE, “”))
CodeSet = nl_langinfo(CODESET);
else {
char *LangEnv = getenv(“LANG”); // last resort in case locale stuff isn’t installed
if (LangEnv) {
CodeSet = strchr(LangEnv, ‘.’);
if (CodeSet)
CodeSet++; // skip the dotJanuary 1, 2012 at 16:36 #2494the main issue here is really that i don’t know why my epg.data is iso an yours is utf…
January 2, 2012 at 13:44 #2497If i only use “export LC_CTYPE=de_DE”
Then VDR drops back to default settings and uses ‘ISO-8859-1′:Jan 2 19:32:48 geexbox user.err vdr: [1694] VDR version 1.7.20 started
Jan 2 19:32:48 geexbox user.err vdr: [1694] codeset is ‘ISO-8859-1′ - knownThis will surely work, because the iocharset fits to VDR’s codeset.
What does vdr tell you in your log (first two lines)?

Jan 2 21:40:35 geexbox user.err vdr: [841] codeset is ‘UTF-8′ - known
Jan 2 21:40:38 geexbox user.err vdr: [841] found 28 locales in /usr/share/locale
with
cat /etc/locale.conf
LANG=en_US.UTF-8when forcing with LC_CTYPE=fr_FR , back to ISO-8859-1
January 2, 2012 at 18:41 #2504Same for me.
With LANG=de_DE.UTF-8 VDR starts with “codeset is ‘UTF-8′ – known” but i kann get the special chars in XBMC.
With LC_CTYPE=de_DE VDR falls back to ISO-8859-1 and i get the special chars.I would of course prefer to run everything in UTF8 then ISO-8859-1.
January 3, 2012 at 04:43 #2506January 3, 2012 at 19:35 #2511ok, fix also the channel name -> did convert the channels.conf to utf8 -> works.
But to be honest, the issues never stop.
Currently for what ever reason vdr does collect any EPG data. i used r13766 from scratch.
I tried everything i could think of.
Plz help.January 4, 2012 at 02:31 #2512ok, ok finally got it.
The reason why VDR is was not collecting EPG was that something messed the “date” of my pc.
To be honest i never thought it was so easy, and i really dont know which action cased the mess of the date.
In 1927 there was no EPG data at all, i am sure.
To really finalize this post:
Since r13733 i get all special chars in EPG as well as in channel names with VDR set to UTF and /etc/locale set to LANG=de_DE.UTF-8
I think we can close this now.
Thanks for all your help.
