I made small passive cooling XBMC machine from used msi Wind-BOX II.
I put BroadcomHD to a free mPCIe slot. (WindBox has 3 slots)
WindBox II has not got (documented?) SDPIF out.
I bought cheap PCM2704 USB sound card with optical and coaxial SPDIF out. (The card cost is less about 8 USD without cover box).
The USB sound card works well with GeeXbox without any driver. I tested it my -also used – Onkyo TX DS494 receiver. DD 5.1 and DTS 5.1 work wery well with cheap USB sound card and GeeXbox.

Beautifull solution, another option if you have some space inside case will be add spdif output.
As stated on MSI page Wind box uses Realtek ALC888 http://realtek.info/pdf/ALC888_1-0.pdf
On pin 48 of chip you have SPDIFO output signal, on page 71 of datasheet figure 21
shows how to interfase this signal with optical toslink transmitter or coaxial.
