Good lord I feel a bit embarrassed. I guess I somehow downloaded a patched version of the Geexbox for Cubox-i image. Got the proper one geexbox-devel-20140116-r16711.cuboxi.img and it used DCHP… Everything seems fine now. *blush* Thank you for taking the time to reply, your post DID help in that when I went to look at the version I had, I noticed I may have gotten an older version that was patched.
