I have been playing around all day trying to figure out how to get this to work:

I am able to boot up XBMC and use the GeexBox network utility to change my wired network to a static IP. It seems to save everything except for the DNS server. When I go into the System->System Info menu in XBMC is shows 127.0.0.1 as my DNS server.. I am not able to telnet or SSH in because of this (I’m assuming). I also cannot figure out how to get anywhere with the console menu using the USB port on the Cubox…

Does anyone have any advice how to properly setup the network on this device? The only thing I can see wrong is that it doesn’t seem to be saving my DNS server or allow DCHP. It definitely doesn’t grab an IP when I use a fresh install on my SD card either.

    Thanks for any advice!!

    That’s normal.

Nope. It should work without DNS if you specifiy the IP address of your CuBox-i.

I also cannot figure out how to get anywhere with the console menu using the USB port on the Cubox…

Which menu ? You should get a console prompt there. Use root/root to login. BTW, when you unplug/plug the network cable, you should see something like this:

PHY: 1:00 - Link is Down
    PHY: 1:00 - Link is Up - 100/Full

on your terminal. Also, if you telnet/ssh into the machine, search dmesg vor “PHY” – related messages.

It definitely doesn’t grab an IP when I use a fresh install on my SD card either.

It should. Even thoug I have seen a situation where it did not obtain a lease from a DHCP server running on Windows…

BTW, which build of Geexbox are you using ?

Good lord I feel a bit embarrassed. I guess I somehow downloaded a patched version of the Geexbox for Cubox-i image. Got the proper one geexbox-devel-20140116-r16711.cuboxi.img and it used DCHP… Everything seems fine now. *blush* Thank you for taking the time to reply, your post DID help in that when I went to look at the version I had, I noticed I may have gotten an older version that was patched.

    Thanks!!

Don’t feel too bad about this. There is a lot of confusion around the CuBox-i at the moment. The images on the SolidRun site are pretty much outdated and there is quite some development going on. And the fact, that our build server is currently down and that we can’t create daily snapshots makes the situation even worse. I hope that this will clear up in the next future…
