How to enable ftp

In Geexbox 1.2.1 the ftp-server is not enabled after it is installed on hd.

This is the way to enable it:

  • Start the box in debug mode
  • carefull: now you are in ram, you have to connect to disk
  • cd mnt
  • ls

after ls you will see the name of your disks, mine is "IDE #1 Disk GEEXBOX (1)"

  • the disk is writeprotected, so first thing is to remount it:
  • mount -t ext2 -o remount, rw "/mnt/IDE #1 Disk GEEXBOX (1)"
  • cd "IDE #1 Disk GEEXBOX (1)" use tabulator-key to fill name automatically, typing cd "IDE #1 and pressing tab is enough
  • cd GEEXBOX/etc
  • vi network
  • change FTP_SERVER="no" to FTP_SERVER="yes" (have fun with vi, ESC i inserts, ESC x deletes)
  • ESC :w writes your changes to disk

now you can reboot and from remote computer connect via ftp (user geexbox, passwort ftp) you can edit more comfortably.

Take care: ftp is now open and your box is now less secure!
