I have been creeping this forum since my cubox-i4 Pro in the mail back in November. I bought this rig as a dedicated XBMC machine and I must say that so far I’m pretty discouraged. It has been functional but I have to fight with it almost everyday.

On the plus side I have had to learn how to hack the machine and get it to work. Before owning this I knew nothing about linux. So far the most stable version of GeexBox has been the December 15 release. This release needs to be modified to get a hard drive installed and requires quite a bit of work to get your remote working but at least it runs. Even though you have to reboot the system 3 or 4 times a day (sometimes a soft reboot sometime you have to unplug it) At least this release will come back to life and work every time.

Now with all of these nightly releases I have such high hopes. You flash your card, the hard drive is discovered right away, Telnet in and 6 lines of code later I have my rc6_mce remote working, 20 minutes later my library is uploaded and I have added the IceFilms addon. It works flawlessly for a day then it hard crashes and then playback is hit and miss, the time won’t update, the addon has a network error and the box becomes useless so I have to put my old Dec15 chip back in.

Where is the documentation for these nightlies? Who is working on them? Is there a goal to create a GeeXBox release that is stable?

In my perfect world there would be a release for GeeXbox that had harddrive support built in (DONE), the remote set to MCE as a default (90% of us use Harmony remotes so that’s an easy profile), set to play audio over HDMI (DONE), and is compatible with a few useful streaming addons (ICE FILMS, 1Channel, etc.)

Is this something that other users are looking for as well or am I alone in this? I don’t mind playing guinea pig and testing builds. I would just like to get to something stable.

I could not have said that better myself. I’m in the same boat as you but I also need to use a esata drive array.
