Hello all.
Love this! I hope someone can help me out
I have setup GeexBox alongside an existing install of Crunchbang Linux. I followed the post at http://www.geexbox.org/geexbox-for-pc-booting-from-hdd/, I can boot GeexBox OK from the grub2 menu.
Next I setup persistence via the post at http://www.geexbox.org/forum/topic/howto-install-it-in-hdd/page/3/
**The Issue**
When I boot into Crunchbang it does a force disk check on sda1, it says the partition was not cleanly unmounted. When I shut down GeexBox, I can briefly see flashing warnings similar to “cannot unmount sda, the device is busy”.This is a HTPC and no personal data is kept on the Crunchbang install. It is purely there so that I can run GeexBox. I will hardly boot into CB itself, but am worried about this unclean unmount issue.
This is my entry in /etc/grub.d/11_geexbox:
menuentry "GeexBox" {
set root=(hd0, 1)
linux /GEEXBOX/vmlinuz root=/dev/sda1 rootfs=/GEEXBOX/rootfs persistent=/GEEXBOX/casper-rw rw
initrd /GEEXBOX/initrd
}
I have tried swapping out the persistent
rwoption forexternal-persistent, also without therwoption (fails to persist anything in this case), and also tried without therootoption (fails to mount sda which fails to load GeexBox in this case).Figuring the order of options is important, I also tried this order as suggested in the above thread:
...
linux /GEEXBOX/vmlinuz rootfs=/GEEXBOX/rootfs persistent=/GEEXBOX/casper-rw root=/dev/sda1 rw external-persistent
...
ls /GEEXBOX/
casper-rw initrd rootfs vmlinuz
I have also tried moving casper-rw and rootfs into / with the same result.

Can you test a devel iso : http://download.geexbox.org/snapshots/geexbox-xbmc-i386-generic/
I used this one daily with an usb stick without umount /remount issue (right now)
if you have a separate disk, installing geexbox on this one could be an alternative too
(even an usb-stick)regarding extrenal-persistent; how it works is here : http://hg.openbricks.org/openbricks/file/edb5e6946c60/packages/busybox-init/scripts/linuxrc. but it was tested using ntfs partition and nfs boot.
