I’ve asked for ntfs support in geexbox’s kernel long time ago (in 1.2 release). And yes – it had been added.
But now, in 2.0 release it was dropped again! Damn!
Why?
I’ve wasted an hour to find out what is the problem, why I can’t boot Geexbox from ntfs usb drive? (Geexbox just drops me into BusyBox shell)
# cat /proc/filesystems | grep ntfs
#
Oh, so here is my problem? No NTFS support in kernel? Again?
A lot of people (including me) using Linux and using NTFS on removable devices. It’s not because it’s cool or fast or something like this. It’s just for compatibility reasons. Because
1) both Linux and Windows can access this FS and there is NO need to install any special drivers for this
2) FAT32 has 4Gb file limitation (full DVD-image file is bigger then 4Gb for an example).
So there is no any other FS than NTFS that can satisfy both of these items. So I (and many others) have to use NTFS.

I also encountered this problem.
In addition, the software interface to rename or delete the NTFS partition files will fail.

In 2.0 we’re using ntfs-3g for NTFS support, that’s probably why the NTFS kernel driver was disabled. If it doesn’t cause any regression, I don’t see a problem in enabling it back in the next release.

search web and find this, to add ntfs support in geexbox 2.0 initrd:
http://rain.orgfree.com/2011/11/23/geexbox2-0%E7%A1%AC%E7%9B%98%E5%90%AF%E5%8A%A8%E6%94%AF%E6%8C%81ntfs%E5%92%8Ciso/
just copy ntfs driver files from roofs into initrd
( copy ld-linux.so.2 libdl.so.2 libgcc_s.so.1 librt.so.1 libc.so.6 libfuse.so.2 libpthread.so.0 to /lib,
and ntfs-3g to /bin, and now it’s ntfs ok. just mount ntfs partition in script init.)
