Can somebody explain me, how to install a rootfs tar.xz to my Utilite Pro SSD?

    something like that :

    cd /root
    wget http://download.geexbox.org/snapshots/geexbox-xbmc-imx6-utilite/latest/binaries.utilite/geexbox-devel-20140416-r17066.utilite.tar.xz
    wget http://download.openbricks.org/utilite/boot.scr
    mkdir temp
    mount /dev/sda2 /root/temp
    rm -rf /root/temp/*
    mkdir -p /root/temp/boot
    mount /dev/sda1 /root/temp/boot
    rm -rf /root/temp/boot/*
    tar -xaf /root/geexbox-devel-20140416-r17066.utilite.tar.xz -C /root/temp
    cp /root/boot.scr /root/temp/boot

    EDIT :
Not tested this way (doing it by hands with all directories under /)
note : maybe mounting sda1 fails but check with cat /proc/mounts, if it’s not mounted, remove rules that comes with rtorrent and reboot than retest

    Thx for you answer.
Sadly it didn’t work for me.
I also tried with the install script provided from Compulab but didn’t work either.

I forget to mention that you need to boot from a sdcard using geexbox ;-)

Hi thank you for you answer.
Sadly I’m still unable to install the Rootfs to the SSD. I hope once the next stable with XBMC 13 will be released, there will be a easier way to install this. Maybe a working installer script like the one for SDCards “make-sdcard”.
Usually I always use the installer script provided from compulab http://utilite-computer.com/download/utilite/tools/dep-procedure.sh but didn’t work with the geexbox rootfs neither.

I would also like to hear if any one succeeded at installing geexbox to the SSD on Utilite. It is really the best place to have the file system.

    look here :
    https://github.com/OpenBricks/openbricks/commit/54da1931bfc54d984a37940f642c77e0d06067b5

backup your ssd disk, download latest snapshot, burn it to sdcard, boot, connect via telnet or ssh,
    then do
    install-utilite

    It should work

(Sorry for bumping, but this perfectly fits this thread)

I tried using the install-utilite script in order to install the latest devel on Utilite’s SSD – The script seemed to run fine, but the utilite won’t boot.. All I see is the Compulab splash screen and that’s it.

I am using the updated uboot (13 Dec 2014), could this be related? Any idea how to resolve this?

    Thanks in advance,

@tomlohave recently updated the kernel to 3.14.xx, which requires a different u-boot script. I updated http://download.openbricks.org/utilite/boot.scr, so that it *might* work with the new kernel. So please try ‘install-utilite’ again. I cannot test it myself due to lack of hardware.

Thanks a lot, it does work!
Just out of curiosity, what exactly had to be changed in the uboot.scr ?

The most obvious thing is that the new kernel comes in form of a zImage while the old is a uImage. That means that the u-boot script need to use the ‘bootz’ command instead of ‘bootm’. Also the new kernel requires an external device tree file (*.dtb), which has to be loaded by boot.scr as well. The *.dtb file describes all the hardware specifics, so that – given this is done right – the same kernel binary could be used on multiple iMX.6 machines (i.e. CuBox-i, Hummingboard, WandBoard, Utilte …).

The problem with our ‘install-utilite’ is that it was created as a quick hack to get the job done. We need to fix this. I’m quite sure that with a recent u-boot installed it is possible to create a unified ‘boot.scr’ to be used for both sdcard and sata and that ‘install-utilite’ does not have to reference a file that is not part of our regular build process and that can be forgotten quite easily.
