    Hi all,

    at first, I would to thank minds behind this fantastic distro! I tryied all (ubuntu ARM, linaro, Archlinux, and so on…) but only GeeXboX works with my unlucky Cubox.

    Today I downloaded samba pachage from http://download.openbricks.org/cubox/packages/samba-server_3.5.10-1_armv7.opk and installed it. I saw /root folder of my Cubox calling //192.169.144.5 in windows 7 without user/password. So it appears working because I can create subfolders in /root/ folder. But, when i try to create a folder in a mounted external hard disk (visible at /media/HARDDISK) I get an error from windows 7 : “This operation require an autorisation” and two buttons ‘Retry’ and ‘Cancel’.

    May need a user/passord and login with samba or it is a mounting problem?

    Please help me… I need to write on my external HD using samba…

    Thank you a lot.

    Skelos.

    ok, first did you modify

    /etc/smb.conf ?

    [global]
    server string = OpenBricks(%i)
    security = share
    guest account = root
    socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
    wins support = no
    syslog only = yes

    [root]
    path = /
    available = yes
    browsable = yes
    public = yes
    writable = yes

    # To add a writable share of a disk under /mnt uncomment and edit the
    # following share declaration
    # ‘mydisk’ is the disk name as seen by OpenBricks
    ;[mydisk]
    ;Â path = /mnt/mydisk
    ;Â available = yes
    ;Â browsable = yes
    ;Â public = yes
    ;Â writable = yes
    ;Â root preexec = /usr/bin/rw /mnt/mydisk
    ;Â root postexec = /usr/bin/ro /mnt/mydisk

    look at the end, maybe you can add the path to your shared disk ?

    i’m not a specialist af samba but you can try that at least

    Thank you man for your answare.

    Now I know is a File system problem: my external hard disk is NTFS and other USB pens are Fat32. On pens I write correctly, on external HD not. So, the difference is file system type but I don’t know why, because Openbriks supports NTFS….

    yes, I checked, ntfs-3g is included

    can you post the result of command line

    cat /proc/mounts

    else you can try :

    assuming your hdd drive is sdb

    umomunt /dev/sdb1

    ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 /your/mount/point

    with cat /proc/mounts

    you can see if your harddrive is mounted read only (ro ) or read-write (rw)

    Ok man.

    # cat /proc/mounts
    rootfs / rootfs rw 0 0
    /dev/root / ext4 rw,relatime,data=ordered 0 0
    devtmpfs /dev devtmpfs rw,relatime,size=319288k,nr_inodes=79822,mode=755 0 0
    proc /proc proc rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime 0 0
    sysfs /sys sysfs rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime 0 0
    tmpfs /dev/shm tmpfs rw,nosuid,nodev 0 0
    devpts /dev/pts devpts rw,nosuid,noexec,relatime,gid=5,mode=620,ptmxmode=000 0 0
    tmpfs /run tmpfs rw,nosuid,nodev,mode=755 0 0
    tmpfs /sys/fs/cgroup tmpfs rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,mode=755 0 0
    cgroup /sys/fs/cgroup/systemd cgroup rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,release_agent=/lib/systemd/systemd-cgroups-agent,name=systemd 0 0
    cgroup /sys/fs/cgroup/cpu,cpuacct cgroup rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,cpuacct,cpu 0 0
    cgroup /sys/fs/cgroup/devices cgroup rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,devices 0 0
    cgroup /sys/fs/cgroup/freezer cgroup rw,nosuid,nodev,noexec,relatime,freezer 0 0
    debugfs /sys/kernel/debug debugfs rw,relatime 0 0
    tmpfs /tmp tmpfs rw 0 0
    configfs /sys/kernel/config configfs rw,relatime 0 0
    tmpfs /media tmpfs rw,relatime 0 0
    /dev/mmcblk0p1 /media/Boot ext2 rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,errors=continue 0 0
    /dev/sda1 /media/2TB ntfs rw,nosuid,nodev,relatime,uid=0,gid=0,fmask=0177,dmask=077,nls=iso8859-1,errors=continue,mft_zone_multiplier=1 0 0

    Black is my external disk, it appears mountd as RW…

    If I do

    umomunt /dev/sdb1

    ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 /your/mount/point

    it works!!! I can write!!

    But, how can I mount it automatically with ntfs-3g ?

    Thank you again man!

    i have added another patch to udisks, can you test this : connect to your box via telent , putty … then do :

    opkg install -force-reinstall http://download.openbricks.org/cubox/packages/udisks_1.0.4-1_armv7.opk

    reboot

    Does it work ?

    I did it. But it doesn’t work. Following stapes:

    I use cable (for now) to access Internet and when I typed your command only this happened:

    Downloading http://download.openbricks.org/cubox/packages/udisks_1.0.4-1_armv7.opk.

    Nothing else: download never did. I waited for many minutes. So, I downloaded opk package and installed it via Usb pen on my cubox typing:

    # cd /media/PENDRIVE/
    # opkg install -force-reinstall udisks_1.0.4-1_armv7.opk

    It shows:

    Installing udisks (1.0.4-1) to root…
    Configuring udisks.

    after that :

    reboot

    but nothing changed.

    I did also:

    umount /dev/sda1

    ntfs-3g /dev/sda1 /media/2TB

    and this works again.

    I hope this may be usefull for you.

    ok found a solution …

    mv /lib/modules/3.5.3/kernel/fs/ntfs/ntfs.ko /lib/modules/3.5.3/kernel/fs/ntfs
    /ntfs.ko2

    reboot

    it works here

    Ok, I leaved each entry from /etc/filesystem using vi command. It was only one, first row. Nothing else into /etc/filesystem: now it is empty.

    I rebooted. Same problem: no write.

    Good search!

    i found the solution ?

    please restore value ntfs in /etc/filesystems

    Ok. I tryied your command:

    mv /lib/modules/3.5.3/kernel/fs/ntfs/ntfs.ko /lib/modules/3.5.3/kernel/fs/ntfs/ntfs.ko2

    and…

    GREAT IT WORKS!!

    So, I did following steps:

    1)Â Â In console I update the package:

      opkg install –force-reinstall http://download.openbricks.org/cubox/packages/udisks_1.0.4-1_armv7.opk

    Â reboot

    2) I launched this comand:

    mv /lib/modules/3.5.3/kernel/fs/ntfs/ntfs.ko /lib/modules/3.5.3/kernel/fs/ntfs/ntfs.ko2

    and It works!

    to be clear :

    • no need to update package , it works without the patch
    • no need to remove value ntfs in /etc/filesystems
    • just move out ntfs.ko
