Hi,
Dolby Passthrough via HDMI is not working on my cubox-i4 pro. My Onkyo TX-NR414 receives only PCM 2.0.
I have changed the /etc/audio# Soundcard Configuration File # Soundcard to use by name (e.g. "SB") or by ID (0 for first card, 1 for second, ...) #ALSA_CARD="0" ALSA_CARD="1" # Output mode ( analog/digital/hdmi ) # digital is used for SPDIF/IEC958 output #SOUNDCARD_MODE="analog" SOUNDCARD_MODE="hdmi" # passthrough mode for digital/hdmi outputs (none, ac3, dts or ac3dts) # (Note: in analog mode this option is ignored) # none : software audio decoding for all streams # ac3 : enable hardware passthrough for AC-3 streams only # dts : enable hardware passthrough for DTS streams only # ac3dts : enable hardware passthrough for both AC-3 and DTS streams #SOUNDCARD_PT_MODE="none" SOUNDCARD_PT_MODE="ac3dts" # IEC958 Playback AC97-SPSA Mode: # 0. Do you have any advice for me?
Thank you, grisuForget /etc/audio. There is no need to tweak this stuff on CuBox/CuBox-i. Did you enable passthrough and select the right output device for it in XBMC settings (advanced mode) ?
Yes, i enabled passthrough and selected the hdmi output device (The other one is SPDIF.)
What about “AC3-capable receiver” ? I mean, if you get correct 2.0 sound (i.e. no noise etc.) then XBMC assumes that either the audio device or the receiver is not able to handle the format and therefore switches over to software decoding. Maybe you can enable XBMC debug logging to see what’s going on.
The receiver Onkyo TX-NR414 supports all in XBMC listed audio formats. The same receiver gets Dolby Digital from the satreceiver over HDMI without a problem.
As you can see in the XBMC.log XBMC assumes that the cubox sound card (hdmi:CARD=imxhdmisoc,DEV=0) does not support AC3, DTS and so on, which is not correct.

You can safely ignore these messages. This information is unreliable and not used by XBMC. That’s why it says “seems to be” and not “is”. If you look at the “m_dataFormats” line of your ‘Device 3′, you’ll see a rather impressive list of supported formats. This is what XBMC really thinks the audio device can do. So your setup looks just fine and since we have not seen any problem with (non-HD) passthrough for a *long* time, I strongly suspect that it’s simply not enabled for some reason…
I had to reinstall geexbox. Passthrough over HDMI is now working. Thank you for all the explanations.
