    Hi all,

when I connect an external DVD drive to my CuBox-i running Geexbox 3.1, dmesg delivers:

usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number 6 using ci_hdrc
usb-storage 1-1:1.0: USB Mass Storage device detected
    scsi5 : usb-storage 1-1:1.0
    scsi 5:0:0:0: CD-ROM TSSTcorp CDDVDW SE-208DB MF00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0
    sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 62x/24x writer dvd-ram cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
    sr 5:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0
    hub 1-0:1.0: over-current condition on port 1
usb 1-1: USB disconnect, device number 6
scsi 5:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to offline device
    scsi 5:0:0:0: killing request

The drive works fine on other PCs. So I’d like to ignore the over-current condition that is probably viewed as the main error by maybe passing the boot option

    ehci_hcd.ignore_OC=1

or somesuch to the kernel. How do I do this on the Cubox? It’s hooked up to the TV, with a remote control as the only interface. I usually access the Cubox by SSH from a computer in the local LAN.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Amy

you can try to edit /boot/uEnv.txt file
    adding :

    mmcargs=setenv bootargs 'console=ttymxc0,115200 root=/dev/mmcblk0p2 rootfstype=ext4 rootwait rw consoleblank=0 video=mxcfb0:dev=hdmi,1920x1080M@60,if=RGB24,bpp=32 dmfc=3 ehci_hcd.ignore_oc=1'

    Hi Tom,

thanks for your help. That got rid of the OC message. However, the disconnects still happen and dmesg counts up the disconnected/connected device in the following manner:

    dmesg output:
usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number n+1 using ci_hdrc
usb-storage 1-1:1.0: USB Mass Storage device detected
    scsin : usb-storage 1-1:1.0
    scsi n:0:0:0: CD-ROM TSSTcorp CDDVDW SE-208DB MF00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0
    sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 8x/24x writer dvd-ram cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
    sr n:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0
usb 1-1: USB disconnect, device number n+1
usb 1-1: new high-speed USB device number n+2 using ci_hdrc
usb-storage 1-1:1.0: USB Mass Storage device detected
    scsin+1 : usb-storage 1-1:1.0
    scsi n+1:0:0:0: CD-ROM TSSTcorp CDDVDW SE-208DB MF00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0
    sr0: scsi3-mmc drive: 62x/24x writer dvd-ram cd/rw xa/form2 cdda tray
    sr n+1:0:0:0: Attached scsi CD-ROM sr0
usb 1-1: USB disconnect, device number n+2

However, no device /dev/sr0 is created, and the drive is not accessible.

    lsusb sees it though:
Bus 001 Device 091: ID 0e8d:1806 MediaTek Inc. Samsung SE-208AB Slim Portable DVD Writer
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

Now I’m utterly confused, because some things point in one direction, and some in another.

    Dear Tom,

Update: the lsusb output varies, depending if the device is attached or disconnected at the time the command is issued. However /dev/sr0 never seems to exist and there’s no way to play the DVD in the menu.

    Regards,

    Amy

Hum, can you try to attach it to an usb hub ?
Just to confirm it’s not a problem with power supply.
and too , use a devel image, there are a lot of enhancements since 3.1 version.
    devel are here : http://download.geexbox.org/snapshots/geexbox-xbmc-imx6-cuboxi/

    Dear Tom,

I don’t have a powered USB hub on hand right now, but can buy one when I go out later.

And yes, I’m using the latest image.

Indeed, insufficient power to the USB ports was the problem, and the active hub solved it.

    Thanks, Tom!
