Getting the files
You'll need the following two files, click below and save them with the respective names:
Opening the files for work
You'll need the right tool here: If you are running Linux/FreeBSD/MacOS X then chances are you already have an editor that can work with Unix format files and UTF-8 encoding.
If you are running Windows, then things will be bit more difficult. First, you'll need an editor that understand Unix format files and can generate UTF-8 files. For this purpose, follow the instructions in Translating to download an editor and configure it properly for the task.
What exactly to translate
Now you are ready to start. You'll open each of the help_en.txt and menu_txt files and edit them. help_en.txt should be rather easy. As for menu_el.txt, well, the following menu_en.conf fragment shows in bold what should be translated:
<filesel name="open_file" title="Select a file: %p"
filter="/etc/extensions" file-action="run 'mp_loader \'%p\"
actions="d:run 'mp_loader \'%p\' d',c:run 'mp_loader \'%p\' c',r:run
'mp_loader \'%p\' r',o:run 'mp_loader \'%p\' o',p:run 'mp_loader \'%p\'
p',l:run 'mp_loader \'%p\' l',u:run 'mp_loader \'%p\' u',m:menu hide"
auto-close="yes"/>
<audiosel name="audio_sel" title="Select audio channel"/>
<subsel name="sub_sel" title="Select subtitle"/>
<chapsel name="chap_sel" title="Select chapter"/>
<dvbsel name="dvb_sel" title="List of Channels ..."/>
<pt name="jump_to" title="Playlist" auto-close="yes"/>
<txt name="help" file="/usr/share/mplayer/help.txt"/>
<console name="console" height="80" vspace="0">Welcome to MPlayer</console>
<cmdlist name="open" title="Open" ptr="" item-bg="-1" title-bg="-1" ptr-bg="164" >
<e name="Open file ..." ok="set_menu open_file"/>
<e name="Watch TV" ok="set_menu tv_settings"/>
<e name="Watch Digital TV (DVB)" ok="set_menu dvb_sel"/>
<e name="Listen Radio ..." ok="set_menu radio_settings"/>
<e name="Play DVD" ok="play_dvd"/>
<e name="Play VCD / XCD" ok="play_vcd"/>
<e name="Play Audio CD" ok="play_cdda"/>
</cmdlist>
<cmdlist name="radio_settings" title="Listen Radio" ptr="" item-bg="-1" title-bg="-1" ptr-bg="164" >
<e name="Radio Stations ..." ok="set_menu radio_chan"/>
<e name="Increase Radio Volume" ok="run 'amixer set Master 10%+'"/>
<e name="Decrease Radio Volume" ok="run 'amixer set Master 10%-'"/>
</cmdlist>
Remember to save your work.
Submitting the files
Your files are ready now! First zip the files. Then make a new thread in the development section of the GeeXboX forum with the subject: "Localized interface: <language>". Provide a link where the files zip'ed files can be downloaded from, the language they represent, and your name for GeeXboX's credits. If all goes well, the developers will include the file in the next release of GeeXboX.
