I’m experiencing strange things. As soon as I connect the machine on the network, I have the following issues:
- shutdown does not work anymore: it stops Xorg, and remins on the console, which is frozen
- XBMC does not correctly mount a n audio CD or a DVD; it never show the DISC menu. And I can’t eject it anymore, neither with the button, nor with the eject command (which says there is an input/output error on the device)
None of these problem occurs if the machine is not connected. There may be some other issues I didn’t find yet… But the ethernet connection works fine (I can update the meteo, for example).
Is it a known problem? If not, how can I track it down?
Thanks,
October 24, 2012 at 14:44 #5071it’s a known problem now
i dayly use geexbox-3.0 and play all my files over network. Didn’t notice that
October 25, 2012 at 01:41 #5075I will give a try with a PCI ethernet card (I’m using the embedded chip, now)…
BTW, which software handles hot-plug ethernet connections, in geeXboX 3?

October 27, 2012 at 02:37 #5099Ok, I saw there is another network manager, udhcpd, but it does not work
I also tried 2 other network cards, disabling the mother board one, without success. Still the same issues.
As the shutdown procedure correctly shutdown Xorg, and show the console, I was thinking displaying system messages during shutdown (with tail -f), so I would see where it freeze. But I didn’t find /var/log/messages file!
Is there a some similar file, in geeXboX?
October 27, 2012 at 02:58 #5102Just made a test: booting on live geeXboX CD, trying both archs, i386 and amd64). Guess what? The problem occurs with the amd64 version, but all works fine with i386 one!
So, I’m going to re-install geeXboX in i386 mode.
What should I backup to keep all my XBMC settings?
October 27, 2012 at 12:39 #5106for x86-64, if you wait 120s, does the system shutdown ?
October 28, 2012 at 06:27 #5121I’ll try that with the live CD, and let you know.
