Hello,
I installed GeexBox 3.0 to my Pandaboard ES. Everything but sound seems to work. As soon as I try to play some audio it fails with “failed to initialize audio device”. I have tried to use analog and hdmi. I have changed settings in the GUI and in /etc/audio too. Nothing seems to help. Some users have written in this forum that they have sound in the menu but not while playing music. Well, I don’t have sound at all. I don’t understand the different combinations in the GUI audio settings. There are 16 different PandaES hdmi’s. Which should I choose? And I don’t mind using analog sound, but it keeps failing to initialize too…

November 28, 2012 at 10:58 #5413Thank you for a reply. Here’s my /etc/audio

November 28, 2012 at 11:30 #5415ok, you use analog …
try in xbmc, in audio conf, custom settings, enter :
plughw:0,6
try too :
plughw:0,8
November 28, 2012 at 13:31 #5420Hi,
the plughw:0,8 doesn’t give the “failed to initialize” error, but there still is no sound.
Another thing I noticed is that if I open any music add-on with plughw:0,8 the radio starts to play but the seconds go really slow. It takes nearly 10 real seconds until the box changes the second number on screen. If I change the plughw to something else, I get the initializing error but the seconds go in realtime.

November 29, 2012 at 13:30 #5429Works out of the box over hdmi …
tested this build : http://download.geexbox.org/snapshots/geexbox-xbmc-omap4-pandaboard/20121126/binaries.pandaboard/
November 30, 2012 at 02:01 #5438Hi,
It didn’t help. I installed this build the same way – formatted the SD card and added the build with the ./omapsd /dev/ssd
The out-of-box was configured in xbmc settings audio output analog and it gave the initialization fault. I tried to change it but still got the same fault. Please post here the out-of-box settings in xbmc audio settings and from /etc/audio that you managed to get to work.

December 1, 2012 at 01:18 #5447As said, I didn’t touch the config of xbmc. it’s the basic one, I use only hdmi for sound.
December 1, 2012 at 03:47 #5449Well, yes you mentioned that you didn’t change anything. Although in my panda’s original xbmc config there was analog output enabled. That’s why I’m asking. It would be a bit strange if you also have analog defined as output but the sound comes from hdmi…

December 1, 2012 at 04:35 #5450yes, keep this value.
December 10, 2012 at 07:28 #5514Sry, I’ve beem away for a while and I could not test it. But now I just tested out-of-box with the build you told and with the latest build (03.12) too but no change – there’s the initialization error. I didn’t change anything. I have a Philips 32″ LCD connected to the PandaES.
