Hi @all
After trying to install GeeXboX for the last three days – at least – now I got it to boot
Now, my problem is that it’s running with probably 1fps. I’ve already read this and this forum post, due to the fact I’m also using an ATI video card.
I have installed fglrx tomlohave mentioned in his last post but things are not working faster.
Additionally, at booting error messages are showing “Unsupported video mode: 315″ and “Cant load framebuffer” (at least I hope so, because I’m writing from memory )
My system configuration:
Intel Q6600 @ 2,4 GHz
ATI Technologies Inc RV770 [Radeon HD 4870]
GigaByte P45-DS3 mainboard
two monitors (I don’t think this is a problem because I’ve unplugged the smaller one and it remains the same)
The output of dmesg, Xorg.0.log and xbmc.log can be read by following the links.
OK, I think this is enough information for the start and to work with.

from you dmesg, you use 2.0, right ?
Please test a devel iso here : http://download.openbricks.org/
from your xorg logs, you don’t use fglrx, but radeon driver from xorg.
Maybe you forgot to restart xorg after installing this package ?

Yes I’m using 2.0. Just forgot to mention it
I think the problem comes from different settings in the bootloader. One is just persistent and the other is “persistent=casper-rw rw”. Changing this settings results in different outputs of mount (I thought it should make no difference, but it does). I already figured it out yesterday but it was too late to write another post.
Conclusion is that the I started with the wrong settings and the casper-rw was not mounted (correctly) and after reboot the old radeon driver was used. I’ll figure that out when I’m at home and let you know the results.

we change some settings in initrd after the release of 2.0
You can now use a specific persistent file (adding “persistent=your_file rw” at boot prompt)
just use a devel iso. many omprovements with graphic cards. I can now use free drivers with my nvidia cards. No need of non free drivers. But i can’t test for ati.

OK, I’ve got some results. But they are … disappointing.
First if I add a persistent file at the boot promt it seems to be ignored. It mounts nothing on loop1 (I think) and so it isn’t persistent over all. (This was the fact yesterday so the change of the driver wasn’t kept).
After installing with persistent changes the screen stays black after booting. Even the splashscreen with GeeXboX is not shown.
If you need the output of dmesg etc please let me know.
When I have some spare time at the weekend I will test the devel-iso. But not today, girlfriend is calling

Persistent should be at located at the root of your usb stick with the name casper-rw (ext 2file system inside)
But please use devel iso
More easy to help.

It is located at the root in both cases. But with added persistent=casper-rw rw its not mounted.
OK, I’ll switch to the devel-iso.
If you need help with testing on ATI hardware maybe I can help Maybe I have an additional old radeon around here!
Further updates tomorrow.

No problem
quote : persistent=casper-rw rw /quote
is only for post 2.0, not 2.0
